Sedation Dentistry

You can enjoy a better dental care experience with sedation dentistry. Even patients with severe dental anxiety can benefit from sedation dentistry.

There are many benefits to sedation dentistry depending on your individual needs. As a result of sedation, your body is able to relax more completely. As a result, local anesthesia is more effective. The sensation of time passing is reduced with sedation dentistry. Especially useful if you need complex or multiple treatments at the same time. Additionally, it prevents your muscles from stiffening or becoming sore as a result of prolonged periods of sitting.

All sedation procedures are closely monitored by our experienced dental professionals to ensure your safety and comfort.

Nitrous Oxide Sedation

Nitrous oxide, commonly referred to as laughing gas, is a mild form of sedation used in dentistry. When inhaled, it produces a mild state of relaxation. Additionally, it reduces the perception of pain. The use of Nitrous Oxide is safe for almost all patients, regardless of their age. In order to neutralize the effects of nitrous oxide, oxygen is used following treatment. After this has been completed, you will be fully alert and able to drive yourself home.

Oral Conscious Sedation

OCS, or Oral Conscious Sedation, provides a stronger level of sedation than Nitrous Oxide. OCS is often preferred by patients due to its ability to provide a deeper level of relaxation.  Throughout the treatment, you are still capable of standing, walking, and answering questions, but remain calm and drowsy. After undergoing OCS, many patients find that they have little memory of the procedure. This can be extremely beneficial for patients who suffer from dental anxiety.

Unlike Nitrous Oxide, Oral Conscious Sedation requires someone to provide transportation for you on the day of your procedure. While there are no lingering effects, it may take up to 24 hours for the sedative effects of these options to dissipate completely.
